Somewhere, not here

scenes-from-my-hood:

no kidding.

just another reason i try to discourage all of you young things from going to law school.

i love, love, love working for a small firm where most of these rules don’t apply.

but i am one of the lucky few.

So sad when your career misadventures are reduced toan nytimes trend piece but, there you have it. Luckily, after a v. demoralizing year spent working in a large law firm I got the offer to come work for the government (and eventually join the foreign sevice!). But if that hadn’t happened? I shudder to think about what I would be doing now: employed miserably, or unemployed miserably, seem to be the two most likely options.

I suggest people think long and hard about law school before committing. Is there anything else at all that you would rather be doing? If so, do that. If not…well, at least you’re going in with your eyes wide open.
